Join the Western New York Genealogical Society as it takes its May member meeting on the road for a special "members only" talk and tour at the Heritage Discovery Center in Buffalo, New York. In this special program hosted by the Buffalo Irish Genealogical Society, attendees will participate in a guided tour of the HDC Research Library and an afternoon of lectures and research demonstrations.

The first lecture will highlight strategies, assets, and resources for research in Ireland. The second presentation will cover the growing use of DNA analysis in Irish genealogical research. The day will close with a digital demonstration of research techniques by BIGS team members.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their research for assistance and evaluation by BIGS librarians and volunteers.

  • 10:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Gather & Welcome
  • 10:30 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. HDC Research Library Tour
  • 11:45 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. Lunch Break
  • 12:45 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. Lectures
  • 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Research Demonstrations
  • 2:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Q&A

Cost: This program is free for WNYGS and BIGS members. However, donations in support of BIGS' Railroad Employee Records Project will be accepted on the day of the event.

Registration: Seating is limited. Advance registration is required. Members can register online by visiting https://wnygsbigs2017.eventbrite.com. All registrations must be received no later than May 15, 2017.

I noticed there will be a lunch break. What are my options?

For this event, attendees will be allowed to bring a bagged lunch. The facility has a full kitchen and microwave on-site.

The Heritage Discovery Center has its own private parking lot. Parking free and located next to the building.
